Deloitte NWE Impact Awards 2018 Cardiff Apprenticeship Scheme

Deloitte’s Cardiff Apprenticeship Scheme (CAS) has been recognised with an internal accolade in Deloitte’s North West Europe Impact Awards 2018. These awards recognise achievements across the firm in making an impact that matters for its clients, people and society.

Launched in 2015 at the firm’s Cardiff office, the scheme was a first for Deloitte in Wales. Having traditionally hired experienced staff, its management recognised a lack of opportunity for local school leavers and young people without many qualifications or much work experience – but with an appetite to achieve and succeed. And so the Cardiff Apprenticeship Scheme was born. To date 48 apprentices have had the opportunity to earn a salary whilst gaining vital skills and qualifications for a professional services career.

Deloitte partners with Cardiff & Vale College to deliver the scheme’s educational element, the Deloitte Business Administration Apprenticeship. A first for the college, it has been an overwhelming success. With Deloitte’s input the college has been able to replicate the scheme with two major businesses in Wales – Admiral and Principality – providing even more opportunity in the local area.

As part of the scheme, Deloitte representatives and apprentices regularly participate at key events including local business breakfasts, Welsh Government events and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s ‘Improving Opportunities’ Board. The apprentices regularly share their experiences at local schools, Career Wales apprentice recruitment events and as part of Deloitte’s Social Mobility initiatives too.

With such great success since launch, the scheme offers a future of opportunity to many and we are extremely proud to play a part in it. Being one of just 17 winning entries from over 770 nominations is fantastic recognition of this.

Deloitte’s Cardiff Delivery Centre lead, Ross Flanigan, and three lucky apprentices will be travelling to Brussels in June, joining Deloitte’s very first NWE Partner Meeting. They will have the opportunity to spend time with the partners, showcase the Cardiff Apprenticeship Scheme alongside the other winning entries as part of an exhibition and partake in a number of activities visiting sites such as the European Parliament and House of European History.

Congratulations to everyone involved.
